From Paris to Penrith, the world’s best canoe slalom athletes are heading down under for the 2025 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships at Penrith Whitewater Stadium.
Today marks one year to go until more than 300 athletes representing 50 nations will take part in the biggest canoe slalom event on the planet.
Penrith Whitewater Stadium, a legacy venue of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, will once again play host to a world class event with thousands of spectators expected to fill the stands to catch a glimpse of both Aussie and international stars in action.
Paddle Australia is today putting out a call out for volunteers to help deliver the event, which will be a must watch on the Australian sporting calendar with Olympic gold medalists and Penrith locals Jess and Noemie Fox set to headline.
Sydney 2000 boasted some of the greatest sporting volunteers of any Olympic Games and Paddle Australia CEO Phil Jones is hoping to see the same level of engagement for 2025 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships.
“Today marks 1 year to go until the 2025 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships arrives in Penrith and we are putting out the call for volunteers to sign up and get involved in what will be an incredible six days of action at Penrith Whitewater Stadium.
“Volunteers are the backbone of any sport and major event and our hope is to engage people to be part of the Canoe Slalom World Championships.
“Over the coming months we will unveil different roles and opportunities available to people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. But to make sure you don’t miss out, sign up today to stay up-to-date,” he said.
Jones said the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships will be more than just a sporting event in the heart of Western Sydney, it will also be an opportunity to profile the sport with the Australian public and get more people into paddling.
“We know people will be snapping up the tickets to catch Olympic champions Jess and Noemie Fox together with Paris Olympians Tim Anderson and Tristian Carter in action.
“But we also want to utilise the great opportunity of hosting this event as part of the ‘green and gold runway’ to the 2032 Olympic Games, to get more people into our sport whether that’s on the water paddling or off the water volunteering.
“Thanks to the support of the Australian and NSW Governments, we’ll be developing great community engagement programs in the lead up to the event to ensure all Australians have the opportunity to share in the 2025 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships,” he said.
The 2025 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships will be held from 1-6 October 2025 at Penrith Whitewater Stadium.
